Patanjali Yoga Sutra 3.51
Swami Vivekananda's translation
By giving up even these powers comes the destruction of the very seed of evil, which leads to Kaivalya.
Vyasa Bhashya (English Translation)
When, upon the destruction of afflictions and actions, there arises this awareness: ‘This discriminative knowledge is an attribute of sattva, and sattva itself is to be rejected as part of the forsaken; whereas Purusha is immutable, pure, and entirely different from sattva’—then for the yogi who becomes detached even from this [omniscience/omnipotence], the seeds of the afflictions become like roasted paddy seeds, incapable of germinating, and merge back along with the mind. When they are dissolved, the Purusha no longer experiences the threefold suffering. Therefore, Kaivalya (Liberation) is the absolute separation of the Purusha from the gunas, when the gunas, having fulfilled their purpose by manifesting in the mind as actions, afflictions, and their fruitions, resolve back into their causal state (pratiprasava). At that time, the Purusha is established in its own true nature as pure Consciousness alone. || 50 ||
