AN 5.29 - Cankama Sutta (Walking Meditation)

“पञ्चिमे, भिक्खवे, चङ्कमे आनिसंसा। कतमे पञ्च?”

“पञ्चिमे, भिक्षवः, चङ्क्रमे आनृशंसाः। कतमे पञ्च?”

English Translation

“Mendicants, there are these five benefits of walking meditation. What five?”


The Five Benefits

Pali

“अद्धानक्खमो होति, पधानक्खमो होति, अप्पाबाधो होति, असितं पीतं खायितं सायितं सम्मा परिणामं गच्छति, चङ्कमाधिगतो समाधि चिरट्ठितिको होति।”

Sanskrit

“अध्वानक्षमो भवति, प्रधानक्षमो भवति, अल्पाबाधो भवति, अशनं पानं खादितं सम्यक् परिणामं गच्छति, चङ्क्रमाधिगतः समाधिः चिरस्थितिको भवति।”

English Translation

  1. One is fit for long journeys.
  2. One is fit for striving.
  3. One has little sickness.
  4. What is eaten, drunk, chewed, and tasted is properly digested.
  5. The immersion (Samadhi) gained by walking lasts a long time.
